Sibling Rivalry

My sister Abigail is a lot of things: intelligent, motivated, hard working and impeccably dressed.  As early as I could remember my mom dressed us alike all the time, and even when my mother stopped buying us matching outfits, my sister was able to expand her wardrobe by telling my mom it is a "sister purchase". This branding led Abigail to expand her shoe, purse, and clothing collection while looking better in the clothes that I had purchased! Abigail's style is envy worthy, and has sparked some sibling rivalry in how we leave the house each morning.

Despite her demanding medical school schedule, she leaves the house with her effortless style. She is the queen of all leather jackets and shoes. I admire my sister for her fashion sense, and above all her life accomplishments!  Enjoy some of her December bests....hopefully she will forget some of them and they will end up in my closet!

New Year: New goals and old dreams

Growing up means becoming the person you dreamed of....when I was a child I use to sit in front of the TV and watch Working Girl (when my parents left me with a babysitter). Watching Tess (Melanie Griffith) transform from the secretary to the high-power executive was mesmerizing to me.

Her transformation started with a simple conversation and sequin dress. Her boss, Katherine Parker (Sigourney Weaver), bluntly suggests: “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman” (Coco Chanel). And from that moment on, Tess's life is forever changed. Her transformation starts with her attempt to style herself into the person she believes she wants to be. In the end she gets the job, Harrison Ford, and the power suit of her dreams!

This modern day fairytale for the working girl reminds us that style is not something to forget, but an instrument to aid us in our own personal growth. We live our lives motivated by our goals, and at times our professional and personal pursuits can distract us from sleep, bathing, and our clothes. But our exterior should always compliment our motivation, and I believe when we dress well, we feel better and accomplish so much more than we ever dreamed possible.

I believe my style is a genuine reflection of my dreams. My whole life I would fantasize about different roles, but in all these roles I was well-dressed. This blog will allow me to share my style reflections along with my personal and professional aspirations and demonstrate how style can inspire self-confidence, creativity, and poise. Thanks for following.

Enjoy!
